On 9th of November Estonian University of Life Sciences celebrates its anniversary – 170 years of veterinary education in Tartu. EMÜ researchers Andres Valdman and Jevgeni Kurõkin attended the 10th International Ruminant Reproduction Symposium (IRRS) at the Wish Resort Golf & Convention in Foz do Iguaçu – Brazil. Great news from Sheffield
Rafaela Konstantinidi an undergraduate research student in my group at Sheffield has had her research project selected for presentation at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research (BCUR) on 12-13 April 2018. The project is entitled 'Investigating how the presence of spermatozoa alters the secretion of extracellular vesicles by cultured porcine oviductal epithelial cells in an in vitro model of the female reproductive tract'. In 2012 she got her DVM title at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb in Croatia. Since 2013 she has been employed at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine – Skopje, University „Ss. The University of Sheffield research group attended the UK Extracellular Vesicles Forum on 12 December 2017. The abstract presented was titled "Investigating whether the presence of spermatozoa alters the secretion of extracellular vesicles by cultured porcine oviductal epithelial cells in an in vitro model of the female reproductive tract". First female calf in Estonia born from the OPU technology

But what is special about her is the way she was brought into this world. It is the first cow calf in Estonia who's derived from the OPU technology by grafting the egg from a live animal by extraction, cultivation and embryo transfer method. Researchers from EMÜ introduced their field of study to high school students
Marilin Ivask gave a talk in Kiviõli I High school about "Kloonimine ehk mida EMÜ embrüolaboris tehakse". Elina Mark visited Jõhvi Gymnasium and gave a talk about "Sigimise biotehnoloogiad loomakasvatuses". Monika Nõmm supervised a hands on curse for in vitro embryo production to the students from Ülenurme Gymnasium.

We are happy to announce that PhD student Elina Mark from EMU has been starting to supervise a third year bachelor student Hanna Raidvere with the topic of „Different effects of vitrification media on bovine embryo cryopreservation“. Elina is also supervising Pihla Teppo on her thesis about „Oocyte quality and donor animal healt“.
